More than 110,000 Canadian Sikhs participated in the voting for the Khalistan referendum on Saturday at a voting center opened in Brampton by 'Sikhs for Justice' in the name of Bhai Harjinder Singh Padha. The polling agency said they would soon set up more polling stations to conduct re-voting as thousands of people had to turn back without voting, after the due time.
Thousands of people were unable to vote by 5pm while queues stretched for kilometers by the end of the day. Since 7 am, a large number of men, women, young and old of all ages started lining up at the voting center to cast their vote in favor of Khalistan. There were many who were never seen or heard talking about Khalistan but had come to vote.
During the voting, the ID cards of the voters were being seen just for confirming the age and no copies were made in contrast with the rumors that were being spread claiming that voting could lead to data breach and the data could be transferred to Indian embassies further leading to troubles related to immigration.
'Sikhs for Justice' welcomed the large turnout. Its General Gurpatwant Singh Pannu said that Sikhs in Canada have shown that they will not accept anything less than an Sovereign Khalistan with Shimla as the capital of Sovereign Punjab. Today, Canadians voted in an democratic referendum to reclaim Shimla as the capital after the liberation of Punjab from Indian occupation.
